Last month, I was invited to become a member of UNAI, Mexico (UNIDAD NACIONAL DE ASOCIACIONES DE INGENIEROS A.C.). The organisation is a legally constituted civil association which is integrated with 72 other organisations in Mexico to find adaptation and mitigation strategies to the impact of climate change through engineering solutions.
UNAI regularly attends Climate Conference every year, and this is how, last year in 2022, I got to know about them after meeting Donovan and Eduardo in Sharm-al-Sheikh (while travelling from the beautiful Dahab).
On 20th July, 2023, I gave my first presentation to UNAI members on occasion of their virtual forum to discuss strategies of conserving water in Mexico. My presentation is available online and can be accessed here.
The summary of my presentation is here:
Coral reefs are dying at a vast rate in Mexico, especially in the region around Quintana Roo. Apart from bleaching due to rising ocean temperatures, another reason responsible for this is: white syndrome and growth of sargassum algae.
I will propose a potential collaboration between UNAI and Mexican Society of Coral Reefs to address this issue. One community project that I will discuss in the talk is the use of electrotherapy technique to prevent coral reefs from dying because of white syndrome.
